Thursday, January 30th, 2014Linocuts
Wednesday, January 29th, 2014To make my linocut, I had to research the Timelord language to work out how to spell Time. After that I drew the symbols out and traced them onto a piece of Lino. I then had to cut the symbols out of the Lino with a linocutter. I also added the English translation underneath. Last of all I rolled ink onto the smooth, un-cut surface of the Lino and put it through a press. I enjoyed this quite a lot and seem to have got quite carried away and produced 13 different copies. I have only put the best ones forward on my blog:
Intaglio printing
Wednesday, January 29th, 2014Wire final piece
Monday, January 27th, 2014In the end I decided to sculpt a hummingbird out of wire as I liked the idea of it being able to hang it from invisible string. I really struggled with this project as I am a huge perfectionist and find it really hard when I am bad at something. On the last day of working on this project, my hummingbird got mangled in my school bag and I had to unravel the entire structure to bend it back in to shape.
After unraveling it this far I decided I was just going to start again so that I would be happier with my finished result. I’m going to try and work with thinner wire that is more malleable.

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014I found mono-printing in the dark room really interesting and it inspired me to start using my film camera more as I now knew how the dark room worked. Mono-printing is different from most other types as whatever design you choose to print can only be used once. For my first mono-print, I used a scrap of mesh fabric to create the background and enlarged my Celtic cross pendant. For my second mono-print I simply used my hair!
3D Card Practice
Tuesday, January 21st, 2014Working with Wire
Tuesday, January 21st, 201420th of November we started working with aluminium wire to make simple 3D sculptures. We first attempted to make a wire cube which I thought would be relatively easy but as it turned out wire is rather hard to work with. It took me about 45 minutes to make a cube that was more of a cuboid.
Our next task was to make a humanoid shape out of wire, making sure it stood up, balancing, on its own. This I found very hard and as you can see I am only half way through it, it still needs arms and a head.
The conclusion to our progress working with wire will be to hopefully produce a wire creature of our own choice. I have been researching different shaped that I could use for my design and have come up with a few creatures to choose from:
A big cat, either Panther (my favourite) or Tiger
Or a Sperm Whale
